Horseback Riding

Enjoy beautiful Wyoming Horseback riding tailored especially for you!

Why go with Rockin’ M and what’s the difference?

Rockin’ M Ranch offers quality horseback trail rides easily accessible from Jackson Hole, Star Valley, and the Alpine Wyoming areas. We pride ourselves in smaller more personable rides, great trails, and friendly experienced guides.

When looking for the right horseback ride you will likely find everything from a short touristy ride at the local ski resort to an all day adventurous ride in the area mountains. With Rockin’ M, our experienced guides will tailor your ride to fit your ability, comfort level and expectations. With several trails to choose from, horseback rides can range from a slow paced tour along the banks of the Salt River to a mountainous ride into the National Forest accompanied by a mountain top barbeque lunch.  We can also combine your horseback ride with some fly fishing! With Rockin’ M, groups are kept small (under 8) and personable. Our horseback riding trips are quality, not quantity.

On our horseback rides, we often see Deer, Elk, Moose, Bald Eagles, Swans, coyotes or other wildlife. Due to the private nature of our Horse trails, we rarely see other people.

Horseback Rides

One Hour River Ride (4 person minimum)

This ride is geared towards the small child, timid adult or someone who may not be comfortable being in the saddle for an extended time. Originating from our Rockin’ M stable your guide will tour your group around the Salt River riparian areas. This ride will have some small water crossings and a good chance to see some wildlife that typically live along the rivers edge including ducks, geese, bald eagles, Moose, deer, and coyotes.

Two Hour Ride

The two hour ride departs from the horse stables at the beautiful Rockin’ M Ranch. Expect to see stunning panoramic views, wildflower meadows, and wildlife as this ride gains elevation into the Targhee National forest. We often give guest the option for a river crossing at the end of the ride, conditions permitting.

Three Hour Ride

This is a continuous “in the saddle” ride. This is for the rider who wants to cover the most country for the amount of time spent in the saddle. We will cover a similar distance and trails to our half day without the break 1/2 way through for lunch. This ride will consist of some smaller “in the saddle breaks” for pictures.

Three Hour Forest Ride with Riverside Barbeque Lunch/Dinner

This ride is a great combination of forest, mountains, and river.  After venturing off the valley floor and taking in some great views, riders will cross the Salt River, tie up your horses at the hitching rail and take a nice break at the Rockin’ M Riverside camp.  Your guide will cook you a delicious cheeseburger style barbeque lunch/dinner before completing the ride back to the the Rockin’ M Ranch.

1/2 Day Ride (With barbeque lunch)

Our most popular ride! Similar to the three hour ride, but we will take a break half way through the ride. Riders can take this opportunity stretch the legs, visit, and take in the 360 degree breathtaking view from the “Vista” while your guide cooks you a delicious mountain top barbeque burger lunch/dinner. This is a large loop trail, keeping the scenery ever changing. We offer an optional river crossing at the end of the ride, conditions permitting.

Horseback Rides and Fly Fishing

1/2 Day Private Family Horseback Fly Fishing Trip with Riverside Barbeque

This is the ride for the ambitious group that wants to do it all!  This ride originates from the Rockin’ M Ranch Stables. Riders will take a horseback ride along the Scenic Salt River to our private riverside “fish camp” on the Salt River banks.  Horses will be tied at the hitching rail while your guide gives instructions and helps you to catch a wild trout. Anglers will get an introduction to spin fishing and a fly-fishing casting lesson.  While at the day camp your guide will prepare your group a river side barbeque burger lunch or dinner. This ride will be spent approximately 1-1.5 hours in the saddle and 2.5-3 hours fishing and enjoy your riverside meal.  Total activity time approximately 4 hours. Fishing is catch and release. All equipment and lures provided. Wyoming fishing license required for all anglers 14 years and older.

Combination Horseback/Fly Fishing Trip

The Rockin’ M Ranch Salt River location enables us to offer a very unique and exclusive full day adventure. Your guide will start your day with a 3-4 hour morning horseback ride originating from the onsite Rockin’ M stables. Upon finishing your morning horseback adventure you will enjoy a delicious riverside lunch while your guide makes the transition from the horses to the river.

The afternoon will be spent fly fishing with your guide navigating you and your fishing partner down the Salt River, from a drift boat, casting at Cutthroat, Rainbow, and Brown trout. At the completion of your fishing adventure you will end up back at the Rockin’ M Ranch Salt River boat ramp.

All equipment, lunch, and drinks are provided for this horseback/fly fishing adventure. Your guide will give a fly fishing/horseback riding lesson for those new to the sport. Spin fishing available upon request.
