February 7, 2017 Alpine, Wyoming Snow Report Rockin’ M Ranch
The last couple days in the valley has been a few degrees over freezing. It hasn’t really rained yet the sleety wet snow really hasn’t stuck either, until today.  It has been dumping big wet flakes and is predicted to continue through tomorrow. The last couple of days has really pounded the area mountains. Local ski resorts have reported, Jackson with 18″ in the last 24 hours and Targhee with 29″, as a storm total. The biggest part of the storm just arrived. Local snotel sites look like at least 2 feet (if not more) in the last few days. Blind bull just topped 90″ on the stick. Avalanche danger is high. Below is a copy of today’s report for the Salt River Range area. It would be wise to stay off the big stuff for awhile!!
GENERAL AVALANCHE ADVISORY
Dangerous avalanche conditions exist. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning through 5:00 PM tonight. Small to large wind slabs are very likely to be triggered today, and natural activity is likely. Around three and a half inches of snow water equivalent has been added to the snowpack since Wednesday. This load may be sufficient to see avalanche activity failing on buried layers of surface hoar and near surface facets that formed in January, which could increase slab depths by one to two feet. Deep hard slabs might still be a concern on high, north facing terrain.TRAVEL IN AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT RECOMMENDED.
